The Politics of Violence

War: dennotatively, presumably the word applies to actions taken subsequent to legislative and/or executive decisions, based in constitutional law, by a recognized state or nation. Connotatively, "war" is seemingly any violent actions undertaken by a state and/or its agencies. Of course, there continues to be a struggle among various interpreters of war powers and its limitations.

Terror: a tool in the hands of those who have little or no politically sustainable recourse in a struggle against parties and forces of superior strength.

Oversimplification? Perhaps, but it is not possible to discuss such matters without clear definitions of such inflammatory words. Even then, civil debate seems a luxury.

Does war fuel terrorism? Specifically, does the presence of foreign forces in Iraq fuel sectarian discontent and violence? Of course it does. Sadly, there are countless similar examples throughout history.

In my opinion, neither humble nor apologetic, power breeds arrogance, possessiveness, and violence.
